Before you can begin earning commissions, you will need to apply to be an affiliate with one or more affiliate companies. After you are approved you can browse offers and select a campaign (or multiple campaigns) to run on your web site, newsletter, ezine and other online properties you own.

If an affiliate company is too loose and lets anyone join they end up having problems with fraudulent activity. Chances are they will not be able to keep quality offers since top merchants only want to be associated with affiliate networks that have honest affiliates like us. 

An affiliate company is not much good to you if they can not attract and keep top merchants. Therefore, consider it a huge plus when an company has an approval process.  

Remember that affiliate companies really do want to approve you. The more affiliates they have, the more revenue they are able to generate for their clients/merchants. However, they also need to feel confident that you will promote their offers in a responsible manner.
